High-impact technology development and application.
Involved with the development and implementation of air injection as a follow-up process to Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD), and then led the successful development of an enhanced ignition technique for EnCana’s gas-cap air injection process (EnCAID). As Team Lead, formed, developed, and managed a multidisciplinary team that high-graded a 5 billion barrel Clearwater heavy oil resource, established its exploitation strategy, and filed an application for a thermal pilot. This effort resulted in P50 economic contingent resources of 355 million barrels and an NPV of $100 million before tax from the resource auditors.
Designed and initiated a $100+ million capital development program for the Dina-Cummings heavy oil pool in Senlac, Saskatchewan, and managed the execution of capital programs in excess of $30 million annually. This program grew production from 6,500 bopd to 11,000 bopd in two years.
Responsible for reservoir management and production optimization of the largest oil field in Africa, Sarir, producing 200,000 barrels of oil per day.
Formulated the field development plan and prepared the technical bid to the Kazakhstan Government and private investors, which resulted in the successful acquisition of the Karazhanbasmunai Joint Stock Oil Company for $55 million. This company was later sold for $2 billion.
Tenured associate professor at the University of Calgary. Received several teaching excellence awards and published several novel papers on air injection technology.
